Hello, my friends! I hope you’re all keeping well and taking great care of yourselves.
What a unique situation we all find ourselves in right now! It has taken me a while to get my head around it all and consider how to best use this time. To me, it seems that this situation has given us an opportunity to slow down and realize what is important. I feel it’s a real time for growth and progression for humankind. As we adapt and overcome, perhaps we will create something even better and rediscover the importance of community spirit.
FREE CLASSES
Please be aware the sound and video quality in these classes isn’t great. I have ordered a microphone and tripod, but I hope you can understand that my options during lockdown are rather limited!
The following class is a very gentle Dru Yoga class, with a little Yin Yoga interspersed. The focus is on releasing negative emotions, grounding and finding peace in these troubled times. The class is suitable for most bodies, although you will need to be able to get down onto the floor (and up again!) safely in order to fully participate.
Please do share this page with any friends or family who you think may benefit.
If you have found the videos helpful or if you have any ideas of how I can support you during this strange time, please use the contact form at the foot of this page to get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
INSPIRATION
A suggestion for helping us to deal with the fear and anxiety in these stormy seas is the practice of coherent breathing. I have been practising this for 20 minutes every day during the lockdown and find it amazingly grounding and calming. Even my voice changes after practising it! (Of course, everyone’s experience will be different though and it does not necessarily work well for everyone.)
If you are interested in the practice of coherent breathing, the following video is of an interview with Richard Brown and Patricia Gerbarg (two of the leading teachers of coherent breathing and authors of The Healing Power of the Breath). The second video is the ‘timer’ I have been using for my daily practice. On the topic of breathwork, I am also loving the book Draw Breath: The Art of Breathing by Tom Granger that I was gifted a couple of months ago by Norman Blair, who has been a true inspiration to me, especially during this pandemic.
If you’re looking for a good book to get you through the lockdown, I can thoroughly recommend The Dalai Lama’s Cat as the ultimate heartwarming treat. Many insights are gently woven into the truly enchanting story. I’ve been listening to it on Audible and it’s a real joy. It’s narrated by the author which really brings it to life.
Just when the worried caterpillar thought the world was going to end, he turned into a butterfly.
